Position Summary
Responsible for inspecting civil construction activities performed by contractors and associated auxiliary tasks. Under direct supervision, this position exercises direct oversight in ensuring contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, and construction standards. Represents Cranston in a limited decision-making capacity with supervisory oversight when dealing with clients and contractors.
Essential Functions
Inspects construction activities and materials for compliance with governmental safety, regulatory compliance, approved plans, specifications, construction standards, permits, and enforces quality control procedures.
Duties will include:
- Calculates, tabulates, reviews, and approves quantities delivered and installed to the project site for accuracy and compliance on a daily and monthly basis as applicable to daily reports and monthly pay applications.
- Reads, interprets plans, and specifications.
- Maintains mark-up drawings to reflect as-built conditions and reviews contractor's red-lined and as-built drawings. Reviews contractor's final red-lined drawings and ensure proper submittal of these documents for development of record drawings.
- Prepares daily reports performs inspection walk-throughs, generates punch lists, submits final quantities including measurements and issues final field acceptance.
- Attends preconstruction and project status meetings with governmental agencies, contractors, and consultants.
- Operates GPS survey equipment to shoot in all utility appurtenances.
- May review and coordinate chlorination and sampling of new lines, service outages, tie-ins, repair of damaged infrastructure, and installation of temporary connections.
- Communicates with internal staff and external clients and contractors to resolve project issues and concerns.
- Practices and promotes safe working environment as a main priority while performing job duties.,
- Trains and serves as a resource to co-workers
- Performs other incidental duties and related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or degree in Construction Engineering Management
- Three (3) years experience in engineering inspections, erosion sedimentation and pollution control, inspections for construction projects, or a related occupational field; OR some experience in engineering inspections, erosion sedimentation, and pollution control, inspections for construction projects or a related occupation field WITH a Construction Management Certificate or Public Works Inspector Certificate
The following certifications are preferred: - Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Certification Level 1A

- South Carolina Department of Transportation Certification
- South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Certification
- Georgia Department of Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection
- SCDHEC Erosion and Sediment Prevention Control Inspector
- South Carolina Department of Transportation Earthwork, Drainage and Base inspector
- South Carolina Department of Transportation Asphalt Roadway Technician
